Happy National Hot Dog Day!

In honor of National Hot Dog Day, The Meat House would like to share a list of some of our favorite regional variations of this unique American treat. Enjoy!

The Classic Chicago Hot Dog
The famous Chicago all-beef dogs are never boiled, always steamed on a poppy seed bun and topped with chopped raw onion, green pickle relish, hot sport peppers, pickle spear, tomato slices, yellow mustard, celery salt—and of course, no ketchup.

The Coney Island Hot Dog
This is where it all started…the American hot dog became the American dream. The all-beef frank is cooked on a flatiron griddle, and most often dressed with only mustard, kraut and onions. That’s all. No relish, chili, and especially, NO KETCHUP!

The Michigan Coney Dog
After tasting the dogs native to Coney Island, Detroit began serving a similar rendition: a pork hot dog served on a steamed bun, topped with all-meat chili (no beans allowed), diced onion, and yellow mustard.

The Cincinnati Cheese Dog
A pork and beef frank with a crazy amount of toppings. Anything but standard, this dog is topped with chili, chopped onions, and an ungodly amount of shredded cheese mounded on top.

The Jersey Italian Dog
Popular in North Jersey, this deep fried Italian dog is topped with peppers, onions and friend potatoes stuffed into Italian bread.

MLB Park Dogs
Fenway Park in Boston and Dodger Stadium in LA have their own signature hot dogs, the Fenway Franks and Dodger Dogs. Fenway Franks are boiled and grilled Fenway-style, and then served on a New England-style bun, covered with mustard and relish. Dodger Dogs can be steamed or grilled although grilled is the favored style.

The Southern Slaw Dog
Ya’ll can get a taste of hot dogs slathered with a sweeter slaw down South, where variations can include the chili-slaw (cole slaw, mustard, raw onion, and all-meat chili) and BBQ slaw.

Are you hungry yet? Swing by your local Meat House where we carry the best of the best! Our Boars Head all-beef hot dogs are a prefect start to creating your own variation of these classic hometown dogs.
